Iconic Design Mug — “Dievs svētī Latviju”
“Dievs svētī Latviju” (“God Bless Latvia”) a minimalistic design mug referencing the National Anthem of Latvia.
The design draws inspiration from a recently discovered engraving carved into a remote rock near Nesselberg mountain range in Germany that reads “Dievs svētī Latviju” (“God Bless Latvia”), dating from the summer of 1945, when the Second World War finally ended.
The handwriting of the found engraving is very similar to the stylistics of the Cīrulis typograhy and therefore inspired us to create a mug as a daily reminder of these words.
Dievs, svētī Latviju / God bless Latvia
Mūsu dārgo tēviju / Our precious fatherland
Svētī jel Latviju / Bless Latvia
Ak, svētī jel to / Oh bless it so
The words are typed in the iconic Cirulis font, designed by a design studio Asketic and inspired by the signature lettering of Ansis Cirulis (1883-1942) — one of the first Eastern European designers from Latvia. Each mug comes in a unique packaging featuring the Cirulis lettering design.
